Have a program session and teach teens how to spot Fake news (check the author, date, sources, identifying satire, etc.) Collect a variety of Fake News stories, making sure to cover both sides of the political spectrum along with hoax photos. Teach strategies for researching sources, like reverse image source. School Library Journal has some great lesson plans as well.
Materials Needed: Projector & screen; Computer with strong internet connection.
- Go beyond the research and have the teens develop their own Fake News story on something in their lives along with a real news item (not necessarily on the same topic). Post the stories in the library and see if patrons can guess which ones are real and which ones are fake.
