Live: Family Fort Night

Building forts is a classic summer activity.

Audience: Youth/Family

Materials Needed: Blankets, sheets, pillows, plastic tablecloths (you can provide or ask families to bring their own), plastic clips, wire clips, or tape, flashlights and/or glow sticks

Read a story or two to begin. Choose bedtime stories or stories that inspire creativity (Not a Box, Chalk). After the story, families are free to build their forts. Consider these instructions: Find a book. Gather supplies. Build your fort. Read in your fort!

Extension Activities:

  • Glow hide and seek – give each family a glow bracelet. The person wearing the bracelet hides, and the rest of their family has to find them.
  • Have families name their forts and draw for a winner at the end of the night.
  • Give out Walking Smores for snacks, or have families mix their own (Teddy Grahams, chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows in a bag).
